Summer in Dusseldorf 2015

Summer in the city – Tips and recommendations for the summer in Dusseldorf

Discover the joys of summer on the Rhine River, perhaps in one of the beer gardens, at the open-air cinema, in the outdoor swimming pool, or just enjoying a leisurely stroll or picnic in one of the many green areas.

Fresh Air in the City – Parks
Discover one of the numerous parks within the city and enjoy the fresh air. Special summer moments can be celebrated with the Hyatt picnic basket or the Moët Ice Impérial picnic basket. Alternatively Dusseldorf can be explored by boat. Choose a boat excursion or be your own captain. From April to mid-October, the boat tours take place every day and run along the sights of the city.

The Best Beer Gardens along the Rhine River
The first sunbeams and blue sky will lead Dusseldorfers, as well as visitors from all over the world, into the city’s beer gardens, which are commonly affiliated with a traditional brewery. Bikers, hikers, in-line skaters and car drivers all know one place: The Burghof at Kaiserswerth. In a green oasis close to the Rhine River, one can completely relax and enjoy a glass of beer or juice. Located at the riverside, the Rhine Terraces are close to the Rhinepark. The Rhine Terraces not only offer a refreshing break, but also host numerous events during the summer months.

Alternatively you can end your day on our Pebble's Terrace with cold drinks and chillout sounds. Afterwork@Pebble’s takes place every Tuesday from 6:00 pm until 10:00 pm, weather permitting. As in previous years, DJ AXLNT will be responsible for the finest beasts in the Media Harbour.

Summer Open Air Events

A cinema experience underneath the starry sky is a definite highlight of the Northrhine-Westphalian summer culture in Dusseldorf. Up to 2,200 visitors may enjoy daily movies in German language, snacks and refreshments in front of the 400-sq-m screen of the Open Air Cinema 'Commerz Real Cinema'. From mid-July to mid-August 2015, the edge of the Rhine will be an impressive background for international cinema highlights. Movies start at the beginning of sunset.

This year will be the 114th time that the largest annual funfair will be set up at the picturesque location of Oberkassel  Riverside. National and international carnivals set up on the 160,000-sq-m funfair ground, along with the latest fairground rides. A must-see is the fireworks display on 24 July 2015, starting at dusk (around 10:30pm). Opening times: Mon-Fri from 2:00pm, Sat from 1:00pm, Sun from 11:00am

Refreshment on hot summer day
The Benrath outdoor swimming pool is equipped with a large, versatile stainless steel basin, a super-fast slide and a 1m and 3m diving platform for all levels of swimmer.  Sunbathers may relax on the large lawn, whereas those who prefer a cooler spot may find the perfect place under one of the many trees.

At Rheinbad outdoor pool, early swimmers may use the 50m sports pool as early as 6:00am in the morning, just-for-fun swimmers can cavort in the water park, equipped with a large water slide, whereas children may play in the paddling pool around the fun water animals.  Those who prefer solid ground can find distraction on the beach volleyball fields, at the playground, in the restaurants and, of course, on the sunbathing lawn.
