1990 – The History of the Media Harbour Location

Hyatt Regency Dusseldorf is located at the tip of the modern media harbour in Dusseldorf, which has been used by companies from the world of media since 1990.  The building complex “Der neue Zollhof” by architect Frank Gehry became the showpiece of the location.  Very soon after, the supply of office premises exceeded the demand of media companies, which enabled management consultancies, real estate agents and fashion companies to settle in the media harbour.  In no time the media harbour developed into a location for international companies and huge corporations, and is now seen as a hotspot of Dusseldorf.

2008 – The Hotel is finished

In February 2008 the construction work for Hyatt Regency Dusseldorf started.  Prior to that, ‘JSK Architekten’ (now sop architekten) had won an architect competition in 2003.  The so called project “Hafenspitze Dusseldorf” consisted of the planning of two towers each 65 metres high, another seven-storey office building and two underground parking garages on an area of 62,000 sq m in total.  The furnishings of the hotel rooms and the public hotel area was coordinated by ‘Feuring Projektmanagement GmbH’ and the interior design company FG stijl from Amsterdam was responsible for the interior décor of the hotel.

After the completion of the building in November 2010, Hyatt Hotels & Resorts takes possession of the hotel and had a soft opening on 15 December 2010.  The neighbouring tenant’s Christmas party with numerous invited guests became a great success and a wonderful start for Hyatt Regency Dusseldorf.

The official hotel opening ceremony takes place on 11 February 2011 and several prominent figures from finance, politics and TV celebrate until the early morning hours.  The ceremony becomes the epitome of a glamorous event in Dusseldorf and is still a conversation topic long after the opening.

Thanks to the location close to the city centre and the airport, every guest of Hyatt Regency Dusseldorf has the opportunity to feel productive and relaxed.  This feeling is supported by the unique concept of the rooms, which incorporates a major part of the space as a luxurious relaxation oasis.

Another special feature of the hotel is the 450 sq m ballroom, which is accessed from the outside and which is equipped with a spectacular daylight ceiling.  As the daylight ceiling is overflown by Rhine water, it transforms the floor of the ballroom into a water lily pond when the sun is shining.

On 11 June, 2013 a change of management takes place in Hyatt Regency Dusseldorf.  General Manager Monique Dekker hands over the responsibilities and keys of the harbour hotel to her successor Axel Ziegler.  Axel Ziegler already has 15 years of experience with Hyatt.  After occupying several positions in Hyatt Regency Cologne and Grand Hyatt Berlin, he recently worked as the opening general manager for Hyatt Regency Vladivostok in Russia.  It is our pleasure to welcome Axel Ziegler as our new general manager from 2013 onwards.

Starting in 2014, Hyatt Regency Dusseldorf organises the supporting programme for events with theme parties and tailor-made catering.
